Mark obtained his BSc (Biotechnology) and PhD (Molecular biology and Biochemistry) from Sheffield University and has worked at Leicester and Lancaster universities.

His scientific career has involved a number of different biomedical subjects including drug metabolism, protein structure and function, drug testing in protein aggregation disease and biomarker development in dementia.

Currently, he is working on a biomarker test for multiple system atrophy (MSA) using whole blood in partnership with CynapseDX and funded by the ManxMSA Trust.
